Play on a familiar board
Recognizable chess pieces, mouse dragging, legal move markers, and clear check and checkmate indicators make the game easy to follow. Adjust the board size to suit your screen.
New model experiences
A chess companion for playing, learning, solving puzzles, and asking questions about the board.
An experimental release with a familiar board and a keyless API. Start a game, explore a position, or bring Gambit into your own app.

A welcoming way into chess
Play in the browser or use Gambit as a place to practice. The board keeps the important details visible without making you study an engine dashboard.
Recognizable chess pieces, mouse dragging, legal move markers, and clear check and checkmate indicators make the game easy to follow. Adjust the board size to suit your screen.
Explore lessons and puzzles, ask about the current position, and glance at material summaries. The verified chess coach is the default for rules and authored guidance.
Visitor sessions are private, each tab keeps its own active board, and My games lets you return to saved games. The board also works on mobile.
Your boards stay yours. Active boards are independent per tab. Saved games use private visitor ownership through a separate session flow; the stateless API does not save a game for you.
Two different kinds of help
The verified chess coach remains the default for rules and authored lessons. Switch to neural answers when you want to explore the experimental assistant.
Use verified rules and authored coaching for move legality and learning material. This is distinct from the neural assistant's generated answers.
Approximately 28.7 million parameters, initialized from scratch. The current chess weights are an untrained baseline. A legal move is not evidence of strong play or an Elo rating.
Approximately 4.2 million parameters, trained from scratch on a small chess curriculum. Neural answers use your current question and board, without conversation memory, and may be wrong.
Build with Gambit
No signup or API key is required for stateless chess and assistant calls. Apps can send a FEN position, receive a legal move and updated position, then send that FEN with the next request.
GET /modelsPOST /chess/movePOST /analysisPOST /assistant/messagesSaved games use separate private ownership, unlike these stateless calls. Read the documentation for request and response schemas, rate limits, and saved-game sessions.

Gambit is an experimental preview. Availability depends on the owner's PC-hosted backend and Cloudflare tunnel, so live play and API calls can sometimes be unavailable.
